A bone marrow aspirate and core biopsy is performed by an oncologist, internal medicine specialist to evaluate the cause of a patient’s abnormal cell counts. It is typically performed while the pet is under general anesthesia, but can sometimes be done using a combination of sedation and local anesthesia and takes only 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
